Berkeley Resident Receives Purple Heart

BERKELEY - Congressman John Adler, the only N.J. member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, recently hosted a small ceremony to present Army Corporal (Cpl.) Philip James Reed with the Purple Heart. Mr. Reed, a veteran of the Korean War, injured his ankle during combat over 50 years ago. While Mr. Reed was recognized for his valor, earning the Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, he never received the Purple Heart which he earned. Police Say Thanks For Generous Donation

MANCHESTER – Pictured is Chief William Brase, Community Affairs Officer Richard Conklin, Tess McGuire (7) and John McGuire. The McGuires recently received a big thanks from the Manchester Township Police Department for donating a ceremonial bugle to the MTPD. The bugle is equipped with an electronic insert which allows for the flawless playing of songs such as Taps. It’s not the first time McGuire has donated to the PD. He has donated ballistic vests, an ice rescue suit and other equipment, as well as giving his time to the Municipal Alliance and the Police Athletic League. He is shown above with his granddaughter.
