It’s 8 o’clock in the morning at Ciccone Brothers Custom Railing, located at 2002 Route 9 in Toms River, and the shop is already bustling with activity. Workers have loaded a custom fabricated white powder coated spiral staircase onto a truck, and are prepping it for delivery and installation. Sounds of machinery emanate from the warehouse; the sparks from someone welding just visible through the open door. Co-owner Robyn Ciccone comes down the drive, parks and walks to open the office, two white dogs trailing at her heels. There’s a phone to be answered, deliveries and consultations to be coordinated, lots of work to be done.
For over 65 years, Ciccone Brothers Custom Railing has been providing quality craftsmanship in railing and fencing. The business started in Iselin, by John Ciccone, Sr.’s father and uncle. The business was relocated to Toms River 15 years ago, where current owners John and Robyn Ciccone continue the tradition of custom designs, quality material and expert craftsmanship. Semi-retired Frank Ciccone lends his years of experience to the business as a design consultant.

Ciccone Brothers Custom Railing offers aluminum railing, wrought iron railing, pipe railing, ornamental and structural columns, spiral stairs, fences, gates, metal art, handicap ramps and interior and exterior stairs. They work with both residential and commercial clients. They are experts in designing and manufacturing custom metal products, and they think outside of the box to create products that suit both their customers’ aesthetics and budget. The talented artisans at Ciccone Brothers Custom Railing offer their clients near limitless possibilities. As Robyn Ciccone says, “We can do any design possible.”

The artistry evident in all of the custom products that Ciccone Brothers Custom Railing produces is hard to come by these days. In an era where “Made in the USA” is near extinct, and all markets are flooded with foreign made products produced by cheap labor, with cheap materials for a cheap price, the American craftsman is a dying breed. There is a specific reason that this railing company has survived the shift to outsourcing, and the ups and downs of the economy over the last six decades. It’s because at Ciccone Brothers, their proficiency, quality and customer service is second to none.

It’s inside the warehouse where John Ciccone, Sr. and his team of six employees create their masterpieces. From a stair railing with a starfish design, to gates with ornate inlays to exquisite signs and metal art, the designs that come out of the warehouse are truly remarkable. Although Ciccone Brothers can create railing and fencing with a wow-factor, they also take on smaller projects and more simple jobs, such as handicap accessible ramp railing. “We are able and willing to do simple jobs to large jobs to super-ornate projects,” Robyn says. They are fully licensed and insured, work all over New Jersey and can meet quick deadlines in railing emergencies or when other companies drop the ball and there’s a deadline to meet. They accept credit cards and offer a one year guarantee.

Robyn Ciccone explains that the difference between Ciccone Brothers Custom Railing and their competitors is that, “We will not comprise to save a buck as other companies in the industry do. We spend the money for a higher grade of metal which, in turn, produces an overall superior product for our customers.” At Ciccone Brothers Custom Railing, they use high end, quality components, and produce custom products that are of all welded construction. But the Ciccone Brothers difference isn’t just in the product, it’s in the experience. Robyn emphasizes that at Ciccone Brothers Custom Railing, “We strive to give really good, personal customer service.” John adds that, “Our mission is to provide our customers with high quality craftsmanship, durable products and prompt service.”

About five years ago, John and Robyn Ciccone, along with John Ciccone, Jr., expanded their business with the addition of All American Powder Coating. While some railing companies use conventional paints on their products, Ciccone Brothers uses a powder coat, which bonds to the metal and forms a thicker, more resilient coating than a liquid paint. Not only is all the powder coating done in-house so it is quality controlled, but All American Powder Coating also offers powder coating services for other companies as well.

The design process at Ciccone Brothers Custom Railing begins with a meeting with a design specialist. All estimates are free, and precise measurements are taken for the custom product. In addition to going out in the field and conducting estimates, Ciccone Brothers also welcome customers into the office to view samples of railing. “We invite anyone who wants railing to come in and design their own rail,” Robyn Ciccone says. “We’ll take them into the shop and work with them.” Customers can take a look at a unique staircase in the Ciccone Brothers office, which features a hodgepodge of different railing designs, and serves as a great example of the many design possibilities that the company offers.
